My name is Terri. I'm 55 years old and am on SSDI. I spent the majority of my work years as an Administration Assistant and an Office Manager.
We have the goal of moving to New Mexico and living off-grid on our property. We have chosen the house plan that we will build. I am researching what kind of native plants and vegetables that I can grow on our land. What is not native will be grown in a greenhouse. I have already discovered a native avocado!
100% of donations will go to the trip down to NM and the deposits to get the septic, well and pump on the land that we are buying. Once that is done, we are more than able to handle everything else ourselves.
What We Need & What You Get.
Break it down for folks in more detail:
The funding that we need comes to $10,000.00
- $1200 U-Haul truck and dolly
- $800 fuel
- $800 Lodging
- $800 Food
- $1300 Deposits for Septic, Well and Pump
- $5,000 RV to live in until we can build our home
We have a house plan picked out, from adobebuilder.com, and will be building our house in adobe.
This is our chance to make it on our own.
So far we have not had any problem with making the mortgage payments for the land we are buying (5-acres) but we are having problems with getting down there to live. Once we get down there, our expenses will be cut by 2/3rds.
We have until December to let the owners of the land we are buying know that we want the septic, well and pump. If we let them know before then that we want them, we will have to pay for the deposits, and add money on per month to our mortgage payment, and they will install them. If we wait until after December, we will have to contract to have someone else install them at a much higher price.
The deposits for the septic system, well and pump will allow us to live on the land until we can build a house. We have, actually, decided on what we want and will learn to build it ourselves. It may take awhile (neither of us are in great shape) but we have yet to decide on a course of action that we haven't followed through with yet. We are nothing if not stubborn.
This move will help all 4 of us. Health-wise and mental health wise. We are currently living in an area that is prone to earthquakes and is on the SW Washington coast. Which means there is a danger of Tsunami's. Neither of us is happy about this.
My Mother, Brother, Sister, Aunt's, Uncle and Cousins will be living only 4 hours away from us. Right now it's 4 States away.
I will keep up with regular updates on how things are going.
